In Introduction to Mechanical Engineering (Fall 2015) our final cumulative project was to work in teams of 5-6 to design and 3D print a piece with 3 moving parts. We created a wine bottle opener as shown above. In this project we had to specifically look at the tolerance of our 3D printer and assembly, as well as shear vs normal forces acting on the piece.  From this I learned the benefit of looking at assemblies and stress tests in CAD, as well as working on a team with an unstructured, open-ended assignment.
